چکیده
This study evaluated pre- to postweaning ruminal structural development, fermentation characteristics, and acute-phase protein levels in calves with a high milk replacer (MR) feeding rate prior weaning. Six ruminally cannulated Holstein bull were fed MR (150 g/L) at 15% of body weight (BW) 2 equal volumes daily. Volumes adjusted weekly based on BW. Calves weaned using 1-step weaning method, decreased by 50% the end wk 5 full 6. Calf starter, chopped straw, water offered ad libitum. Intake was recorded daily, BW weekly. From 12, pH continuously measured bolus. Ruminal fluid collected from 12 for measurement short-chain fatty acid concentrations quantification total bacteria protozoa. Rumen papillae obtained 5, 6, 7, 8, histological analysis. During step-down, starter intake 3-fold higher continued increase until 12. Body increased birth 12; however, did not change during possibly due low metabolizable energy caused strategy. Further, observed prolonged depression suggests that dietary rumen adaptation after can take several weeks preweaning. depressed affect proteins this finding, along other results, epithelium barrier integrity is compromised

Lactoferrin supplementation to Holstein calves during the preweaning and postweaning phases.
Sixty Holstein calves (30 bulls, 30 heifers) were used to examine the effects of supplemental lactoferrin on feed intake, growth, and health during the preweaning and postweaning periods. One of 3 levels of lactoferrin was supplemented from 3 to 56 d in either whole milk or water to produce 3 dietary treatments: 1) 0 g/d, 2) 0.5 g/d, and 3) 1 g/d. Whole milk (3.8 L/d) containing lactoferrin sup...

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of physical form of starter and alfalfa hay (AH) provision on growth performance, ruminal fermentation, and blood metabolites of Holstein dairy calves. Forty-four 3d-old Holstein dairy calves with a mean starting BW of 39.9 ± 1.1 kg were used in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement. The factors were dietary forage level (0 or 150 g kg-1</sup...

متن کاملInfluence of preweaning nutrition on growth of Angus calves provided a postweaning nutritional system resulting in discontinuous growth.
Postweaning growth patterns and preweaning milk and forage intake were observed over a 4-yr period for 137 Angus calves allowed either fescue-legume or fescue pastures preweaning. After weaning, calves grazed fescue pasture until spring for a slow growth phase and then fescue, orchard grass, bluegrass and ladino clover pastures for 4 mo. Following this period, the calves were confined and fed s...

The digestion and utilization of roughage by sheep depends on rumen digestion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the microbe quantity and fermentative efficiency of rumen supplement with molasses-urea. This experiment was conducted in 2014, eight sheep were selected and divided into two groups (a control group and a treatment group), and only the treatment group animals were supplied with m...
